Human Rights Defenders

Human rights defenders are essential to civil society in the Americas. They lift their voices and put their lives on the line for equality and justice, often informed by their own experiences as survivors of human rights violations.

We stand with human rights defenders by empowering them, strengthening their work and knowledge, and assisting them with our legal and international expertise. We believe that the Inter-American Human Rights System and other international human rights frameworks are important tools for guaranteeing the defense of rights on the continent.

In particular, through our Esperanza Protocol, we hope to create the necessary change so that defenders can do their important work freely and without fear of retaliation.
