Internship Program

Objective

CEJIL’s Internship Program is designed for students and recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field of human rights, with the aim of complementing and strengthening their academic and professional training. The program provides participants with a comprehensive and realistic understanding of the Inter-American Human Rights System, as well as the broader human rights context across the hemisphere.

General Features

Internships are offered in three cycles throughout the year: January to April, May to August, and September to December. Applicants may choose the cycle to which they wish to apply.

While each cycle is expected to last four months, its duration may be adjusted depending on the selected candidate’s availability and CEJIL’s institutional needs.

At the time of application, candidates must select one office where they will carry out their internship. CEJIL has four offices: Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), San José (Costa Rica), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Washington, D.C. (United States).

Applicants must also indicate the area of interest in which they wish to undertake their internship. Options include the GQUAL Campaign, an initiative hosted by CEJIL that aims to advance gender parity in international decision-making spaces.

Areas

Conditions

Internships may be conducted in a virtual, hybrid, or in-person format, as agreed on a case-by-case basis, and may be either part-time or full-time depending on the selected candidate’s availability.

Internships are unpaid, except in cases where they are carried out במסגרת agreements with academic institutions, specific cooperation projects, or when the intern holds a scholarship awarded by another organization.

CEJIL does not manage visa procedures or provide financial support. For in-person internships, candidates are required to have health insurance coverage for the entire duration of the internship. CEJIL is not in a position to provide such coverage.

Application Information

In each application cycle, candidates may apply to only one office. Applications submitted simultaneously to more than one office will not be considered.

Only complete applications submitted within the established deadlines will be reviewed.

Only selected candidates will be contacted and will receive an official acceptance letter, which may be used as proof of participation in the program.

CEJIL guarantees equal opportunity in its selection processes and does not permit discriminatory practices of any kind.
