Indigenous People

For centuries, America’s indigenous peoples have been subjected to physical, cultural, and existential threats, with their traditions and territories experiencing serious damage and degradation. Regrettably, governments often ignore the needs of indigenous communities, leaving them vulnerable to human rights violations by state and non-state actors. Today, indigenous groups represent one of the first lines of defense in protecting the planet against further environmental devastation.

For this reason, we work side by side with indigenous peoples in presenting their claims before international human rights mechanisms and improving the effectiveness of the Inter-American System with regards to cases involving indigenous peoples. In this way, we promote the protection and self-determination of those who have been taking care of the well-being of the American continent for millennia.
