Salary: Salary ranges between $80,000 and $100,000 depending upon experience.

This role will manage our institutional grants portfolio and our institutional funding strategy. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with a wide range of human rights advocates and a multicultural team of dedicated human rights defenders working primarily in Latin America.

The IDD will report to the Executive Director and work closely with staff at all levels of the organization. This role will oversee the Grant Writer’s work.

The Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) seeks an experienced and mission-driven Institutional Development Director to help the organization nurture relationships with current and prospective donors.

Founded in 1991, the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) is an organization dedicated to advancing human rights in the Americas. CEJIL seeks to take on human rights abuses across the region and bring about positive social change through the use of strategic litigation before the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS) and the incorporation of multi-layered and tailored advocacy, capacity building, and media work at the international and local levels. CEJIL defends the rights of more than 20,000 victims of human rights violations through 200 human rights abuse cases across 21 countries in Latin America and the U.S. These cases address a range of issues, including gender violence, migrants’ rights, massacres, and modern-day slavery, among many others. Responsibilities

Manage institutional grants portfolio 

  • Manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors.
  • Collaborate with other directors in the development of regional funding strategies.
  • Deliver high-quality, timely, compelling, and detailed proposals, LOIs, progress reports and other documents.
  • Identify and research opportunities for new sources of foundation funding.

 

Monitoring Fundraising processes

  • Nurture relationships and create synergies with current funders.
  • Supervise on-time collection of program outcomes, KPIs, and achievements for all institutional reports.
  • Monitor and record incoming donations and ensure acknowledgment letters to all donor audiences.
  • Oversee the Grant Writer’s work.

CEJIL’s Funding strategy

  • Contribute to CEJIL’s individual giving strategy.
  • Oversee the donation acknowledgment and recognition process, including donor database maintenance.
  • Create the conditions for and ensure Executive Director’s or other pertinent CEJIL team members’ attendance at key fundraising events, including global symposiums, gatherings, and donor-related trips.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor`s degree in a related discipline, such as International Relations, Political Science, Latin American Studies, International Development, or Management.
  • Minimum 7 years of successful grant writing, reporting, and fundraising experience.
  • Full written and spoken fluency in English and high proficiency in Spanish. We will not consider applicants who are not fluent in both languages.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, writing ability, creative thinking, and analytical skills.
  • A demonstrable commitment to CEJIL’s mission, purpose, and values.
  • Experience with fundraising contact management systems is desirable.
  • Availability to travel occasionally and enthusiasm about working in a multicultural environment.
  • An ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and comply with strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications as well as comfort using grant management technology.
