Emilio Alvarez Icaza appointed as new Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights
Washington D.C, June 17, 2012 – The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) today announced that Mexican national Emilio Alvarez Icaza will be its new Executive Secretary. As stipulated in Article 11 of the IACHR´s Rules of Procedure, the name of the successful candidate was referred to the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, for his formal designation.
Emilio Alvarez Icaza replaces Santiago Cantón, who announced his official resignation in April 2011 and left office at the end of June 2012.
The shortlisted candidates were:

- Javier Hernández Valencia
- Frank La Rue
- Sofía Macher Batanero
