Designed for students or graduates in international relations, political science, law, or other areas of social science who have an interest in human rights and political advocacy in Latin America.
Requirements
- A good command of the Spanish language is essential. Knowledge of English is a plus
- Excellent writing skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to analyze political and social issues
- Knowledge of the political and social context in Central America and Mexico is preferred
- Previous experience in NGOs is a plus
Job Description
The advocacy internship is based in the San José, Costa Rica office. Interns collaborate under the supervision of the advocacy team; monitor the national, regional, and international contexts; and design advocacy strategies towards state and non-state actors, with a focus on Mexico and Central America.
Their responsibilities include a wide range of tasks, such as:
- Monitoring the human rights situation in the region
- Researching and systematizing information
- Writing analytical documents based on CEJIL’s cases and priority areas
- Coordinating and participating in meetings and conferences
- Reviewing and translating institutional documents and publications
- Performing basic administrative tasks when required
Objective
At the end of the internship, the advocacy interns will have a comprehensive understanding of the Inter-American Human Rights System and the current human rights situation in Latin America. In addition, they will acquire practical experience in designing and implementing advocacy strategies to promote human rights, and they will understand the day-to-day functioning and institutional development of an international non-governmental organization.
