Since its launch in 2015, GQUAL has helped raise awareness about the underrepresentation of women in key international bodies and has promoted solutions through coordination with various actors, including states, international organizations, civil society, and academia.

The GQUAL Declaration, which outlines the campaign’s core strategies, has been signed by over 1,000 prominent individuals from more than 90 countries, including heads of state, international judges, lawyers, diplomats, academics, and activists.

In response to the underrepresentation of women in international justice bodies and mechanisms, the campaign seeks to permanently change the rules and processes that currently determine who is nominated and elected to these positions by promoting gender parity as a core selection criterion. This involves pushing for change both at the national level—where nominations are made—and at the international level—where voting and selection processes occur.

The campaign also aims to foster debate around the causes and consequences of underrepresentation, and to expand access for more women—especially from the Global South—to these key positions by generating information, tools, and opportunities for collaboration across networks.

GQUAL is inspired by and contributes to the broader feminist movement that challenges the discrimination preventing women from accessing decision-making positions. In this sense, GQUAL is an initiative that promotes more equitable access to key spaces where international policy and law are shaped, particularly for women from the Global South.

The campaign is an initiative supported by the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), which serves as its fiscal sponsor. GQUAL’s goals and actions are closely aligned with CEJIL’s work, and the GQUAL team works in close coordination with CEJIL’s broader team.

REGISTRATION FORM

Internship Profile This internship is aimed at students or recent graduates in communications, design, or related fields, who are interested in supporting the development of content, strategies, and the maintenance of social media and the campaign’s website, in line with the GQUAL Campaign’s communication strategy.
