Territories<\/em> is a powerful and evocative book, the result of a collaboration between the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) and the Arte dos Gr\u00e1fico workshop. It features the creative contributions of artists Marcelo Brodsky from Argentina and Fernando Bryce from Peru. This work captures the lives and struggles of ten iconic Latin American activists who have dedicated themselves to defending land, the environment, human rights, justice, memory, and democracy.<\/p>

In close collaboration with the artists, CEJIL carefully selected the cases represented in the book, resulting in a work that shines a light on the dangers faced by human rights defenders across the region and calls for concrete actions to ensure their protection.<\/p>

Latin America is one of the world\u2019s most perilous regions for human rights defenders. The democratic gains achieved in the region are largely thanks to the tireless efforts of these individuals. Territories<\/em> brings this reality into focus by portraying figures like Marielle Franco<\/strong> from Brazil, Berta C\u00e1ceres<\/strong> from Honduras, Hugo Torres<\/strong> from Nicaragua, Myrna Mack <\/strong>from Guatemala, and Marisela Escobedo<\/strong> from Mexico\u2014cases that CEJIL has supported. The book also tells the stories of Jesusita \u201cTuta\u201d Moreno<\/strong> from Colombia, tragically murdered during the creation of this piece; Edwin Chota<\/strong>, an Ash\u00e1ninka leader from Peru; Camilo Catrillanca<\/strong>, a Mapuche activist from Chile; Chico Mendes<\/strong> from Brazil, the first person killed for defending the Amazon; and Jorge Julio L\u00f3pez<\/strong> from Argentina, a witness to the state terrorism trials who was murdered shortly after giving his testimony.<\/p>

Today, Territories<\/em> is a traveling exhibition, aiming to reach every corner of the continent, carrying a message of resistance and hope. Territories<\/em>, launched in September 2023 in Colombia, is an adaptation of the original piece created in Miami, presented as an artist\u2019s book. This special edition includes 60 copies, each featuring 13 original pieces signed by both artists.
