January, 1 <\/sup> 2013-<\/strong> Starting today, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights has a new composition: Judge Diego Garc\u00eda Say\u00e1n, President; Judge Manuel E. Ventura Robles<\/a>, Vice-president; Judge Eduardo Vio Grossi<\/a>; Judge Alberto P\u00e9rez P\u00e9rez<\/a>; Judge Eduardo Ferrer Mac-Gregor Poisot \u00a0; Judge Humberto Sierra Porto and Judge Roberto de Figueiredo Caldas<\/a>.<\/p>\n This new set of judges reflects the results of the elections held on July 5, 2012 at the OAS General Assembly in Cochabamba, Bolivia.<\/p>\n Three out of seven chairs were filled by the following candidates: Eduardo Ferrer Mac-Gregor Poisot<\/a> (Mexico), Humberto Sierra Porto<\/a> (Colombia) and Roberto de Figueiredo Caldas<\/a> (Brazil).<\/p>\n In 2012 the second term of the Court\u00b4s Vice-president Leonardo Franco (Argentina) and the first term of the female judges Rhadys Abreu Blondet (Dominican Republic) and Margaret May Macaulay (Jamaica) expired. The latter two were nominated for re-election but were not selected.<\/p>\n The Inter-American Court of Human Rights is composed of seven judges who must be nationals of the OAS Member States. Terms last six years and judges can be re-elected only once. They are\u00a0elected at the OAS General Assembly as individuals by the States Parties to the American Convention on Human Rights from a list of candidates nominated by those States.
