{"id":411,"date":"2015-10-06T17:40:32","date_gmt":"2015-10-06T17:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cejil.z.actotal.net\/2015\/10\/06\/gelman-2\/"},"modified":"2021-03-12T19:06:50","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T19:06:50","slug":"gelman-2","status":"publish","type":"caso","link":"https:\/\/cejil.org\/en\/case\/gelman-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Gelman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rtejustify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">In August 1976, a group of armed men in Buenos Aires abducted Mar\u00eda Claudia Garc\u00eda Iruretagoyena \u2013 daughter in law of the Argentine poet, Juan Gelman \u2013 and her husband.\u00a0Mar\u00eda Claudia was seven months pregnant when she was taken against her will to Montevideo, where she gave birth and subsequently went missing. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Mar\u00eda Claudia\u2019s abduction occurred during Operation Condor, a cooperation agreement created in the mid-seventies between the dictatorships in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay to eliminate political dissidents. This case marked the first time the Inter-American Court addressed the situation of impunity for serious human rights violations committed in Uruguay during this time.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">This case has strengthened the development of democracy in Uruguay, sparking discussions about truth and justice. Additionally, it has contributed in a decisive manner to the initiation of legal action in various cases of enforced disappearances and other human rights violations.
