Their experience reflects a broader pattern of grave human rights violations that affected thousands of children and families.

For CEJIL and El Refugio de la Niñez, which have represented the family for more than 20 years, the documentary is far more than an audiovisual production. It is a court-ordered measure of reparation that recognizes the victims’ experiences, preserves historical memory, and contributes to preventing similar violations from happening again. Since 2024, both organizations have worked alongside Guatemalan institutions to support implementation of this measure.

This month, the public premiere brought together the family, state authorities, representatives of the Inter-American human rights system, and civil society. It was a powerful moment of recognition and dignity, underscored by the family’s gratitude for finally seeing their story publicly acknowledged.

Although this marks meaningful progress, Guatemala has not yet fully complied with the Court’s judgment. The documentary must still be broadcast on national television, as ordered by the Court, to ensure its message reaches society at large.

Justice is not achieved through judicial decisions alone. It also depends on preserving memory, recognizing victims, and ensuring that the truth continues to be heard.

You can access the full documentary here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SisY6U82IuQ

[381,362
post-103016","blog","type-blog","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-2026-3","category-guatemala-2
["GET
