Gisela holds a degree in Law and Political Science from the Santa María La Antigua University, in Panama. She holds a Postgraduate Specialization in Labor Law from the same university and a Masters in International Human Rights Law from the University of Notre Dame. She has served as a Complaint Analyst for the Ombudsman of Panama, Advocate and Head of the Legal Department of the Truth Commission of Panama and adviser to the Minister of Government of the Republic of Panama on human rights. Gisela has held various positions at the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), litigating a number of cases before the Commission and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. She is the author of several publications and has participated as a lecturer in various seminars, workshops and conferences on various topics related to human rights.
